OUR CURRICULUM

As a HighScope setting, we wanted to personalise our own curriculum, which sets the expectations of what we would like the children to learn.

Our Curriculum has been carefully created to ensure our children leave us with the most important skills needed for their future. We have also included HOW our children learn, using the Characteristics of Effective Leaning, to enable us to provide the best activities and opportunities to have the biggest impact on the children’s learning and development.

Our Curriculum mirrors the expectations set out in The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS) which is the very first stage of the National Curriculum and focuses on the needs of children aged between 0-5.

COR

COR Advantage is a framework, which looks at all aspects of children’s learning and development from birth up to the age of six, mirroring the education programs in the EYFS.

This framework was developed by the HighScope Educational Research Foundation and has been used with children worldwide for more than 25 years. It is based on the latest information about the early years, and has been shown to be accurate and reliable by HighScope and other researchers.

Practitioners will carry out observations on children as they play and explore. They will then use the COR Advantage to link the observation to the different areas of learning.

Our core curriculum is split into 8 goals, linking to typical school age expectations (4-5 years).

Each room within the nursery has a set of age appropriate curriculum goal stepping stones, which act as the foundation to build their skills upon before they move into the next room. As the children move through the nursery, the age appropriate goals for each room all promote progression to eventually meet the core curriculum goals.

Our Core Curriculum Goals link to all areas of our daily routine and the ‘progression of independence’ and ‘progression of mathematics’ underpins everything we do at Sunny Bright.
