EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING
Most members of staff are situated in a specific room. This promotes familiarity between both children and practitioners and enables the children to form close bonds and stable relationships with regular practitioners in their room. Each child will have their own Key Person.
Your Child’s Key Person
- A key person meets the needs of each child in their care and responds sensitively to their feelings, ideas and behaviours.
- Develops a genuine bond with the children and offers a settled and close relationship.
- Having an effective communication with parents/carers, so there is a two way flow of information, knowledge and expertise between the key person and the parent/carers, so they can contribute to their child’s learning
- As your child transitions through the nursery their key person will help them to become familiar with the practitioners and their new environment.
- They carry out observations.
- Record the child’s development on their learning journal
- Use observations to draw up an individual learning plan with next steps to further your child’s learning.
- Hold regular review meetings with parents/carers.
We provide a range of additional experiences throughout the year such as the caterpillar to butterfly experience where the children learn about the life cycle and watch as they change, promoting looking after and showing care to others, before releasing the butterflies into nature.
We also provide fertilised eggs as an experience for the children to watch as they hatch into little chicks. During this time, the children again learn to show care and gentleness to others as they handle the chicks and learn how to take care of them, having the opportunity to hold them and feed them when needed.
At Sunny Bright, we understand the importance of supporting children to express themselves in a variety of ways. Children’s emotional well-being is a top priority and practitioners ensure there are times throughout the day to emphasise and reflect on a variety of feelings. Staff plan activities which focus on feelings and encourage children to share ideas of how and why a person might feel a certain way.
The Rainbow Room create their own Rainbow Rules, which they discuss and agree on, in order to make sure everyone at nursery are able to be safe and feel secure. These Rules are referred back to and emphasised daily and children are able to address if a rule has not been followed.
Relax Kids
Mental health reports show a rise in anxiety, emotional struggles and trauma in children. Without early support, these issues can grow and affect learning, behaviour and long term wellbeing. With the Relax Kids approach, children can regulate emotions and reduce anxiety, build confidence and concentration, improve focus, behaviour and self awareness, develop resilience and lifelong wellbeing skills. Relax Kids believes that relaxation and a positive outlook are the keys to good mental health, self-esteem, emotional intelligence and emotional resilience.”
Our coach Hollie joins us and through music, dance, games and actions, helps the children learn about feelings and emotions, kindness and self affirmation which the children use in daily conversations
