STAR ROOM (0-2’s)



Staffing ratios of 1:3 are adhered to which is in accordance with Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Guidance. We offer places for babies from 4 months of age and our youngest children are based in the star room. We appreciate the importance of individual routines at this age and work closely with parents to ensure a personal approach for each child. We have a self contained kitchen with a bottle preparation area, a separate sleep room and nappy change facilities. At this age, play and learning is very exploratory and discovery based including lots of sensory activities with all five senses involved as the children learn through how things look, feel, taste, smell and sound.

The Star Room have their own fenced garden which allows the children to explore safely and independently with age appropriate equipment and experiences.

The practitioners are fully experienced in caring for children of this age and will provide a variety of stimulating play activities. Each day we will record what your child has had to eat and drink, their sleep pattern, nappy changes and activities etc. The routine in the Star Room will vary at different times, day by day as they follow the children’s individual routines.

Activities in the star room may include:

Treasure baskets – encouraging children’s natural curiosity investigating “real life” items
Messy play – sand, gloop, water, play dough, paint, chalk
Books and songs
Exploring the outside world – watching trees sway in the wind, listening to birds singing, exploring grass, leaves and herbs
Physical play – tummy time, developing balance and control, dancing
Cuddles and quality one-to-one time with a key person
Opportunities to explore and interact with older children
